“The more you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go.” - Dr. Seuss Hi everyone and welcome to 4th Grade! I am Andrea Filip, your child's teacher this year. I have been lucky enough to call Walt Disney Elementary my home for the last 12 years. I graduated from the University of Michigan Dearborn in 2003 with my Bachelor's Degree. I have a major in Language Arts and a minor in Social Studies. I went on to receive my Master's Degree in Education in 2008. I have had the pleasure of teaching 4th grade for ten years and have also enjoyed a year in each 5th and 6th grade. During the school year, I am a proud coach on the Science and Social Studies Olympiad teams, member of the school improvement steering committee, Pto member, and Safety Squad leader. I am honored and forever grateful to my colleagues for selecting me to represent Disney, as Fraser's Elementary Teacher of the Year in 2013-2014. I am also proud to have received an Educational Excellence Award in 2012 with Mr. Cone, Mrs. Hixon and Mrs. Newell, for the work and design of the the Star Reading Lounge that your children spend many hours reading in, while here at Disney.
I enjoy spending my free time with my family. I have two beautiful daughters. Samantha will turn ten in April and is in Fourth Grade and Addison will turn 6 in February and is in Kindergarten. My husband and I have been married since May of 2003 (we have been friends since the 6th grade, in middle school!). We enjoy playing outside with the girls, fishing and boating at our family cottage in Alpena, having fun with my niece and nephew, and hanging out with our 3 brothers cheering for our Detroit Teams!! (Go Blue) The girls and I love to garden and I enjoy photography and sports. I love to read and write and love learning about any history (especially the Civil War and the Underground Railroad). I also love learning about our beautiful state, Michigan, and enjoy our family tradition of going to the Thanksgiving Day Parade every year!
I am thrilled for all of the new technology we will be using this year. I look forward to having a great year with your child and working together to ensure that your child has a successful, productive, POSITIVE, and fun year in 4th Grade!
